Thermal Properties
The thermal shock resistance data presented here indicates the maximum thermal downshock that can be tolerated by individual materials.
Thermal downshock (often measured by quenching test pieces directly into cold water) is the most serve problem for advanced ceramics. Thermal upshock causes fewer problems, for example although Technox® 2000 has a downshock limit of ~ 250°C (depending on sample size and geometry) in upshock it can tolerate a temperature rise of over 800°C.
